Global Handwashing Day
With Global Handwashing Day (15 October) and World Toilet Day (19 November) fast approaching, we would like toinvite your school to join us in what will be one of the biggest Global Handwashing Day celebrations to date.
Global Handwashing Day is an annual global advocacy day designed to raise awareness and engage people in the easiest and cheapest way to improve health and save lives. As well as improving our own handwashing habits, it is a chance to shine a spotlight on the challenges faced by millions around the world who still lack basic health and sanitation resources, such as soap and water. For the last three years, we’ve run a fantastic campaign in Nigerian schools, with famous popstar Sunni Neji performing his Wash Your Hands O song to thousands of children, and this year is going to be even better!
We have developed three exciting educational resources for you to download: The Global Toilet Trail, Top Trumps and The Secret of Soap (a science experiment). Aimed at children in years 3 and 4, they are designed to get your pupils thinking, learning and acting on global sanitation issues.
We would also like to invite your school to take part in the “Our Hands Our Future” competition (PDF), in which children in Nigeria and the UK will share their perspectives on the importance of handwashing with soap with others.
