Fundraising Assistant (Graduate Trainee)
We are looking for an outstanding graduate trainee in our fundraising team to support a wide range of work to build engagement, funding and support for UP’s vision of harnessing disruptive innovation to help poor communities around the world empower themselves.
We are searching for a graduate who is hungry for the chance to develop new skills, gain experience and be given real responsibility to learn the ropes while also helping make the world a better place; who will be given plenty of support and opportunities to learn if they are prepared to roll up their sleeves and work hard.
The trainee will be the first point of contact for all external and internal fundraising enquiries and providing excellent support and customer care to UP donors and supporters. As well as providing a high standard of customer care, ensuring consistent thanking and acknowledgement of new/ departing donors, the successful candidate will work closely with the Funding and Partnerships Officer and the communications team to prepare and send accurate and engaging donor communications e.g. e-newsletters, campaign material, web content, social media messaging etc.
The postholder will undertake research on prospective trusts and foundations, corporate funders and High Net Worth Individual donors and provide support to a range of fundraising and promotional events – including planning, logistics and on-the-day support. As well as processing one-off and regular donations from both online and offline sources ensuring procedures are followed and information is recorded correctly, the successful candidate will beresponsible for the overall upkeep of the donor database (Donor Strategy)– providing internal training and support to colleagues to ensure accurate inputting (after receiving training themselves that will be provided). The postholder will be responsible for esnuring data inputting, amendments, running reports and creating data queries as necessary and will form part of an internal working group to devise and implement a database integration plan (bringing together a range of different databases being used across the organisation).
Other responsibilities will include supporting the fundraising team to ensure team tasks are correctly prioritised and deadlines are met, keeping up to date with fundraising initiatives and news from across the third sector, introducing new ideas and initiatives into the role whilst taking ownership of work and providing some administrative support to the Head of Fundraising such as travel booking, meeting set up etc. They will manage volunteers related to the role.
We are looking for a graduate with bags of enthusiasm and drive for using creativity and a systematic approach to generate income to advance a great cause. Experience of fundraising would be useful but not essential. The trainee will need an aptitude for or (if possible experience of) working with databases, ideally in a customer care environment. They need strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy. They should be comfortable with all types of technology and innovative ways of engaging with individual donors.
They need to be energetic, creative and have a can-do approach – together with having good problem solving skills at a practical level. They should have engaging personal skills both face to face and on the telephone – together with strong written skills to support donor management and ‘customer care’. They should be flexible, willing and able to turn their hand to multiple different tasks as the work requires.
