Head of Fundraising
We are looking for an outstanding person to lead our new Fundraising Team to shape and deliver an ambitious income growth strategy across the range of our funding streams to resource United Purpose’s vision of harnessing disruptive innovation to empower poor communities around the world.
We need someone to lead the Fundraising Team to develop and deliver an ambitious-growth fundraising strategy across high net-worth individuals, individual donors, corporates, institutions, foundations, digital giving, community fundraising and other innovative initiatives which are under development.
The postholder will work with others to develop fundraising offerings around our core propositions for different donors – and manage the deployment of these to build productive partnerships which support UP’s distinctive organisational positioning, including through leveraging the potential of the heritage brought by the mergers with other organisations (e.g. on sport for development from the merger with the London 2012 Olympics-linked International Inspiration which became part of UP in 2016), and close working with our country programmes around the world. They will lead work to develop and manage a strong and effective relationship management strategy. They will be responsible for UP’s systems to build and maintain good relationships with its donors of all kinds, including its contact management database system – where there are plans for significant overhaul. They will manage the UP fundraising budget and ensure strong systems to track income against target.
The postholder will also be responsible for fundraising campaign development and roll out – including working with the communications team on impactful fundraising materials and digital engagement mechanisms. They will manage our Bakewell-based community fundraising hub as part of the wider fundraising team – and work on ways to expand the potential of this area to net further resources. They will also work with others in the organisation to build multi-dimensional strategic partnerships around key areas of our organisational positioning such disruptive innovation with other stakeholders such business, academia or government bodies to ensure these generate income. They will play a central role in building on an established portfolio of foundation and trust income to significantly increase income from these sources and from institutions including UK-based and international governmental sources.
The postholder should relish shaping, building and delivering a new strategy and team in an organisation with high ambition and aspiration to shape and set agendas. They will need drive, determination, creativity and ambition to make things happen, with a proven ability and experience of driving income-generating strategies and an entrepreneurial, go-getting mind set. They will need to have a strong track-record of experience of managing a range of fundraising approaches and channels(though not necessarily all the ones used by UP) – and a proven ability to build individual and organisational relationships with a range of types of funders. Knowledge of international development and its funding context would be a distinct advantage – but is not essential; just an ability to show they can quickly get to grips with the drivers and mechanisms involved.
