Invest. In. Her.
With your help, we can change the narrative about women living in poverty.
Invest. Today.
All too often women living in extreme poverty are portrayed as being powerless, passive or helpless. Yet we know these women are in fact powerful and remarkable, to be admired and respected. In the face of challenging circumstances, they show enormous talent, resilience and drive.
But while these women do not lack ability or drive, they often do lack access to opportunities that would help them become economically independent and provide for their families – including access to education, health care and finance. Without these fundamental building blocks, it is very hard for someone to thrive.
It is no surprise that women and girls are also disproportionately affected by the economic impact of Covid-19. We are already working with women to help improve their access to critical opportunities such as micro-finance loans, skills training, peer support, business networking and health services, but there is much more still to do. It is only when women across the world have access to opportunities, that they will become resilient to pandemics, economically independent and able to lift themselves up out of poverty and move beyond aid for the long term.
Help lift women up. Invest in her today to change her tomorrow.

Meet Oumy
Oumy lives in the Casamance region of Senegal. We have supported her to establish a green job. Green jobs are livelihoods that are sustainable and do not contribute to deforestation or degradation of natural resources.
Oumy supports her family by selling snacks made from African locust bean (known locally as Néré).
Oumy told us - ‘thanks to this job, and thanks to our efforts to protect the forest, I am able to find Néré in enough quantities to maintain my business and support my family’
But now with COVID-19 Oumy needs your support more than ever to keep her business flourishing.
COVID-19
Women-owned businesses are vulnerable to shocks, particularly COVID-19. It has been reported by The World Bank (08 May 2020) that the ‘economic crisis caused by COVID-19, existing gender inequalities in economic opportunities may worsen, as was seen in previous large-scale health shocks such as the 2014-2016 Ebola epidemic’.
Aissatou, Tacko and Marie are among hundreds of women that we are helping to set up green businesses across the Casamance region of Senegal.
Aissatou, Tacko and Marie recently learned how to remove harmful toxins from their groundnut oil production. Now they can say that not only does their solar powered production help save the planet, but they can guarantee to their customers that the oil they produce is the best in town!
By mentoring women with advice on entrepreneurship, production techniques, resilience and marketing, they can expand their business which contributes to increased income for them and their families.
These women have overcome the odds and forged successful futures for themselves and their families but now need further support during this COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of asking you to donate, we are asking you to invest in these women’s businesses today to ensure these fragile businesses can continue to prosper and grow even in a pandemic.
