Meet Moussa Mara /Dyma Moussa Mara

27-year-old  Moussa Mara is a health worker at the Primary Health Care Centre in Tindo, a small city located about 50 km from Faranah, Guinea.

The Health Centre closed at the beginning of the pandemic because people in the community were afraid of catching COVID there. Now, because of the work that has been done in the community, those fears have been dispelled and the Health Centre has reopened.

Moussa says: “Before UP’s arrival, I had heard about the COVID disease on the radio, but I did not have all the essential information on how to avoid the disease. During educational talks organised by UP health agents, I learned how to avoid COVID and how to prevent disease, through physical distancing, hand washing, wearing a mask, etc.”

Moussa is one of 80 health workers in Guinea that United Purpose trained to respond to COVID-19, with funding from the Welsh Government. As part of the same project, United Purpose supported 28 under-resourced health centres across Guinea (serving a population of 137,500) with hygiene equipment and accurate information about the virus.

Mae Moussa Mara, sy’n 27 oed, yn weithiwr iechyd yn y ganolfan gofal iechyd sylfaenol yn Tindo, dinas fach tua 50 cilomedr o Faranah, Gini.

Caeodd y ganolfan iechyd ar ddechrau’r pandemig am fod pobl yn y gymuned yn ofni dal COVID-19 yno. Nawr, oherwydd y gwaith sydd wedi’i wneud yn y gymuned, mae’r ofnau hynny wedi’u chwalu ac mae’r ganolfan iechyd wedi ailagor.

Dywed Moussa: “Cyn i UP gyrraedd, roeddwn wedi clywed am glefyd COVID ar y radio, ond doedd gen i mo’r wybodaeth hanfodol am sut i osgoi’r clefyd. Yn ystod trafodaethau addysgol a drefnwyd gan swyddogion iechyd UP, dysgais sut i osgoi COVID a sut i atal clefydau, drwy gadw pellter corfforol, golchi dwylo, gwisgo masg etc.”

Mae Moussa yn un o 80 o weithwyr iechyd yn Gini y mae United Purpose wedi’u hyfforddi i ymateb i COVID-19, gyda chyllid gan Lywodraeth Cymru.
